There are 5 ski slopes in Epleny, just north of Veszprem approximately 45 minutes drive north of Lake Balaton and during the winter months remain open 9am to 9pm daily. Two of the slopes are lit and there are five ski lifts along with snow machines which are used as necessary<\/p>\n

The facility located on Epl\u00e9ny\u2019s \u00c1mos Hill can accommodate 400 to 500 skiers with four and a half kilometres of ski runs with altitudes of up to 1000m. Over recent years the three old slopes have been extended and two new ones built, including a 120-meter training slope. The facility\u2019s five lifts can carry 3,000 people every hour.<\/p>\n

As well as skiing, snowboarding and sleighing are also popular.<\/p>\n

The cost of skiing in Hungary is very inexpensive with a half day ski pass costing less than \u00a310 and less half that of nearby Austrian resorts<\/p>\n

There are four popular Austrian ski resorts close to the Hungarian border<\/p>\n

M\u00f6nichkirchen \u2013 Mariensee Skischaukel offers three 4-seater chairlifts and a draglift, with a vertical drop of around 2000 feet (580m). Altitude:<\/strong>880m\u00a0 www.schischaukel.net<\/a><\/p>\n

Semmering boasts 1 gondola, one chairlift and a draglift and a vertical drop of just over 1000 feet (336m). Altitude:<\/strong>1000m \u00a0www.hirschenkogel.at<\/a><\/p>\n

St Corona am Wechsel ski area offers two chairlifts and a draglift with a total altitude difference of just under 2000 feet (570m). Altitude:<\/strong>850m www.corona.at<\/a><\/p>\n

Raxseilbahn is in the same area but the web site is only in German and Hungarian www.raxseilbahn.com<\/a><\/p>\n

The Tatras mountains in Slovakia are approx 4 hrs away for excellent low cost skiing. Low Tatra (Jasna), High Tatra (Strbske Pleso, Tatranska Lomnica )<\/p>\n
